We aim to provide research-based information
on supplying the winter market with one of the most demanded products:
Locally Grown Salad Greens.
How?First we will identify the most limiting constraints of winter vegetable production in greenhouses. Then we will develop solutions to overcome these limitations. With this information we will create:
enterprise budgets for winter production of greens suitable for cold temperatures
seasonal planting guides for winter months
culture of specialty salad green varieties
Who will benefit? Nursery growers who
have empty bench top space during winter months are the target beneficiaries of
this work, but farmers who grow winter salad greens in ground will benefit as
well. Consumers directly benefit from this project, because they will have increased access
to fresh locally produced greens during the winter months, and who doesn't want fresh salads in the winter?
